Hawaii's got good teams. problem is it's too far and teams from east coast could have easily made it to Asia using the same amount of travel time.  If anything, the national tournament is best hosted in places like mid-west...

The cancellation of the so-called "national tournament" this year is just perplex and not comprehensible.

Wow I didn't know the "National Tournament" was canceled. I can't even begin to describe how upset I'd be if I paid for airfare along with my entire team, and have a tournament canceled. There ALWAYS has to be a plan B. As an organizer myself, I understand that emergency situations happen that are completely out of your control. But to be completely M.I.A. after an incident like this is terribly irresponsible and downright insensitive to the teams that did shell out a fair amount of money to play for your tournament.

In the defense of Bo however, he NEVER responds to emails, at least not mine. I have sent him inquiries in the past to change my teammates name (spelling or something like that) and never have gotten a response. I inquired about the aforementioned tournament and didn't receive a reply either.

On that note I have also wanted to inquire about how my team is ranked dead last when we've beaten teams ranked as high as 14 (I believe haven't checked in a while.) To all those have complained in the past I've defended Bo, saying this is done out of personal interest and fun for everyone. But when you use that same platform to promote your tournament, I don't see any more excuses. A website that my friend and I developed, RiseoftheSon.com, we have a similar ranking system but based on more empirical evidence than anything. It is a site dedicated to the Asian youth players, teams, and programs all over the North America. We base the rankings on not only tournament championships (single point for regular tournaments, two for elite level competition, etc), but we also consider how long the program has been around (what's tougher than longevity?), how many youth teams in a program, if they hold summer clinics, etc. Bo on the other hand, ranks himself as one of the top 30 Asian ballers in the country lol. All I'm saying is there has to be something concrete with the rankings if it's not going to be "only for fun" anymore.

Yea I seen it on the website. We initially planned to go being that we have never been to ATL and thought it'd be a fun experience. But then we heard about the 12 or 15 minute halves and that, in our eyes, was just an atrocious time format. To add fuel to the fire, or douse our fire to play rather, we then heard that it would be in a single court gym. That was he nail in the coffin plus we had exhausted our program funds by taking our 16 under squad to Florida for the PIBNA tournament 2009.

that"s understandable masae. I saw your website and it looks good.

on the other hand, as much as many big name financial institutions and banks fail this year, the national tournament was possibly falling for the same reason - not enough finances and sponsorships.

Yea I can understand that, but again there must always be a plan B. Or least explain to people what's going on. Either way, inexcusable.

Chosen Few did beat Wooree Litech by 2pts in the Tigers Tourney, but I don't consider it as beating them solidly.... it could've gone both ways.
When Wooree Litech beat Chosen Few by 31pts the year before in the same Tigers tourney, thats beating them solidly!

But the truth is ..... a loss is a loss!

Masae, i understand. however, i think they paid the price already in another way that the damage in reputation already precluded from any more national tournaments in the future hosted by them again.

Yea I'm sure Bo has suffered a big blow to his reputation as an organizer. My whole thing was I was mad for the people that paid airfare only to find out a few days prior that there was no tournament. That's a huge injustice man.

I'm not bashing Bo, I'm sure he's a good guy. But I feel as if he really gave organizers a bad rep with this blunder.

Well good luck to him in the future, he should just cover all bases next time. The National tourney in NYC in 2008 was an excellent tournament. But it wasn't Bo who ran that show, it was Larry from Max Out NY.

Masae, I saw your website and it's very cool. It's awesome to see what you do for your community....thats great!

but on another note, you can't complain about bo's ranking.... Lets be real, I think your ranking is ridiculous! No affence to anyone but most of those teams are average! Yeah, I said it, average! I 've seen many of those teams and you got to be kidding, right.... what a joke! I mean...no PacRim, no Chosen Few, no Wooree Litech, no Public Enemy and etc. I know for a fact Larry Chow and many tournament host going to agree with me on this one. Go ask Rich Twu owner from Dreamleague West Coast that runs 150 team league. Dreamleague West Coast team goes out last year to the Gotham Games New York for the 1st time and wins. The Gotham Games supposed to be the best tourney in the East Coast right?  Dreamleague west coast is a good team but they haven't beat Chosen Few , PacRim, Wooree Litech and Public Enemy. You should go ask the players from the East that played the West Coast teams and they will give you the true answer. Also, how come the East Coast teams can't Win the Nationals in there National tournaments..... Chinese, Korean, Phililpino and etc. It makes you wonder!!!

Where is the coordinator that threw the asian national tournament at?  This is his website and he hasn't been able to explain himself for a month now?  Did any teams that paid for airfare and hotels get any compensation back?  Or their entry fee at least?  National tournaments in IPB would never put any out of town teams in that situation.  It's obvious this guy is a joke, if he can't face his fellow asian ballers and explain himself.

Hey Robotech, thanks for checking out the site. The community has been very supportive of us.

As for our rankings, how is it ridiculous? You do realize that we are ranking Asian YOUTH PROGRAMS ONLY, right? It's for programs, not teams that cater to players ages 8 years old - 19 years old. Unless you have youth teams we don't even consider them because that's not our goal. Open mens teams have enough people ranking them (i.e. Asianballers.net, dreamleague, etc). We just want to recognize the people who serve our youth.

MASAE, just something is confusing me. I always thought Asianballers is an organization and it had some helpers or partners, whatever you want to call it, but i may not know all the details.

based on what you said, it's only one person - Bo - organizating the whole tournament? that's pretty damn good of Bo that he's been holding up asianballers.net for past few years until now.

LoL Robotech I'm not a martyr, I just know a lot of yoth teams that deserve some recognition haha plus I coach my own youth travel team.

Billy, Asianballers' most successful tournaments to date has arguably been the ones in NYC every Columbus day weekend. That was a collaborative effort with Bo and another organizer. This year Bo went solo on the tournament and....the end result is the topic of discussion now. I'm not doubting Bo's tournaments at all. From what I hear, his tourneys in ATL are very good, I'm just saying the scale of teams he was supposed to have probably was overwhelming. Again, I'm not a Bo hater lol, I think he has done a great job with this community and website. But it's this one incident that has tarnished his name and the integrity of his tournaments.
